Abstract

The article aims to study the representation of the Virgin Mary in Surrealism Portuguese, considering its multiple approaches plastic and poetic. The study of these representations shows a subversive and ironic language that questions the ideal of femininity of patriarchal society driven by religious ideals, but also the pure instincts of motherhood.
