Abstract

This research aims to reflect on the concept of natural world in landscapes by Dutch painter Frans Post as well as discuss "creative" landscape of Brazil itself. Thus, we intend to join image and art in order to understand the representations of Dutch America dating from the seventeenth century, which reproduce an exotic, wild and virgin nature, and represent exogenous vision of the Netherlands, and more generally of Europe, about American colonial landscapes. For this purpose, we use as research source the screen "View of the Ruins of Olinda, Brazil" by Frans Post, the first artist to portray American landscapes, and we give focus on art, image and readings of the seventeenth-century Brazil colonial history.
