Abstract

In this article, our goal is to analyze the correspondence between environmentalists José Lutzenberger (AGAPAN) and José Luiz Belart (FBCN). The examination of this correspondence gives insight points of contact and divergence between the ideas and tactics of the writers. In addition, it allows accessing their desires, fears, and personal opinions about the causes for which they fought and, at the same time, a part of the history of Brazilian environmentalism in the 1970s, during a repressive context of the Brazilian military dictatorship. The letters are precious resources for biographies, and can be very useful for research in environmental history.
