The Nature and Functions of the symbol

Abstract

Talking about a rite is being exposed to many aspects. This text shows the rite's experiential core and its presuppositions: the conditions of possibility and the potentialities it contains. Far from being the result of a canonized “freezing”, the rite is the leaven of a transforming experience, it is the basis of a belief, which is expected to be vital.
