Abstract

The death of pope emeritus Benedict XVI gave rise to a debate around his performance in the exercise of the Petrine primacy. This note is only intended to highlight the “forgotten prophecy about the future of the Church” made by him forty years ago when he was professor of theology, and the opening speech of the Aparecida Conference on 5/13/2007, now as Benedict XVI. The two texts complement each other and at the same time demonstrate the complexity of the thought of this disciple of Jesus and theologian-pope.
