Abstract

Pentecostalism is a wing of Christianity that has attracted the attention of scholars of Brazilian society in recent years. The aim of this article is to analyze the growth of Pentecostalism in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes and to carry out a survey of the sociocultural profile of the followers of this religious doctrine. Campos dos Goytacazes is a strategic city for the State of Rio de Janeiro and for Brazil, since it is an important oil hub. For the analysis we consult articles and specialized periodicals that discuss the subject. Finally, it was possible to observe that the Pentecostal dynamics is in full development in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes, which has led this segment to reach high growth rates in the municipality.
