Psychobiography, by uniting life trajectory and artistic creation, allows an investigation into how personal, cultural, and spiritual experiences shape an artist’s subjective expression (Schultz, 2005; Ponterotto, 2015). This study focuses on Maria Bethânia and the impact of her youthful migration on the construction of her identity, adopting synchronic and diachronic methods. The corpus comprises the album Brasileirinho, two emblematic interpretations of Carcará, as well as interviews and documentaries, taking as its axis the prototypical scene of her departure from Santo Amaro. In light of Hope Theory (Snyder, 1994) and the virtues of transcendence (Peterson & Seligman, 2004), the investigation seeks to understand how goals, agency, pathways, and spirituality intertwine in her work. The findings indicate a complex dynamic between memory, identity, belonging, and reinvention. The study invites the reader to enter this universe where life and art continuously interact, opening pathways for new interpretations of the symbolic and spiritual strength that sustains Bethânia’s trajectory.
